O equilibrista social
"The Social Tightrope Walker". This piece critically and ironically explores the complexities of social inequalities and the impact of economic and cultural systems on human identity. The central figure, grotesque and deconstructed, represents a precarious and chaotic balance, serving as a metaphor for the constant struggle of marginalized social classes in Brazil. The tilted crown on the figure's head, adorned in an extravagant manner, seems to mock an illusory or fabricated power, highlighting the contradictions of someone at the bottom of the social hierarchy attempting to emulate symbols of the elite.
Elements such as the gun and the banknote reinforce structural violence and consumerism as tools of control and destruction. The fragmented and mechanical body, adorned with a gold chain, suggests the dehumanization and objectification of individuals, turned into components of a system that exploits them. The kite, a symbol of childhood and freedom, is stained with blood, alluding to the loss of innocence and the cost of this constant struggle. The expired tag on the figure's chest seems to indicate the programmed obsolescence of human life within a society that consumes and discards.
The artwork is a cruel and distorted portrayal of how individuals attempt to "balance" themselves amid social pressures, violence, and the search for validation, often at the expense of their humanity. It invites the viewer to reflect on the weight of inequalities and how the system affects both identity and individual aspirations.
